Welcome to Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development Project (KEMFSED)

Kenya Marine Fisheries Socio-economic Development (KEMFSED) is a project facilitated by the Government of Kenya jointly with the World Bank. The project targets five (5) counties which are along riparian (Indian Ocean) namely; Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu.

Project Development Objective

To improve management of priority fisheries and mariculture and increase access to complementary livelihood activities in coastal communities.

Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development Project (KEMFSED)

The Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development (KEMFSED) project is implemented by Government of Kenya, through the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries with support from the World Bank. The project duration is 2020-2025 with funding worth KSH10 billion.
KEMFSED supports the country in its efforts to leverage emerging opportunities in the Blue Economy.

Aspiring civil engineer’s triumph over adversity

Amos, the youngest of three siblings, was born into a family in Kilifi that knew the harsh realities of financial struggle all too well. He recalls many times when his parents, who rely on seasonal casual work on farms, could not afford regular meals.

Despite adversity, Amos’ esolve to succeed in school never wavered. He scored an impressive 377 marks in his primary school examinations and was selected to join Ribe Boys High School, the institution of his dreams. But his parents could not afford the fees.

Uvuvi House – This will House State Department for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Blue Economy SDFA&BE, KeFS, Kenya Fish Marketing Authority, Kenya Fish Levy Trust fund, etc.

Refurbishment of county offices -Identifying needs and gaps inhibiting growth of investment in marine fisheries and aquaculture in the counties.
Landing Sites – Infrastructure development enhancing investment in marine fisheries and aquaculture in the Project counties.
