Blue Economy PS Betsy Njagi visits KEMFSED project sites

Blue Economy and Fisheries PS Betsy Njagi visited various sites of activities supported by the KEMFSED Project in Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi counties between January 23rd and 26th 2023. Accompanied by KEMFSED National Project Coordinator Patrick Kiara and other officials, the PS paid courtesy calls to the respective County Commissioners before holding talks with Governors Gideon Maitha Mung’aro of Kilifi and Fatuma Mohamed Achani of Kwale. During the familiarization tour, she was debriefed on a just-concluded offshore patrol conducted as part of the activities supported by the project to enhance Monitoring, Surveillance, and Control of the Indian Ocean by a multi-agency team led by the Kenya Coast Guard. The PS also met and interacted with community members during a visit to a women’s group growing seaweed at Kibuyuni village in Kwale County. Other sites she visited included Shimoni, Kwale, where KEMFSED is supporting the establishment of the National Mariculture Resource and Training (NAMARET) Center as well as sites of proposed fisheries infrastructure that offices and fish landing facilities.
