Induction of Fisheries Observers (from KMFRI and KeFS) on observer guidelines and data collection.

The project under Component 1, Fisheries Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) inducted Fisheries Observers (from KMFRI and KeFS) on observer guidelines and data collection. The activities included both theory and practical session onboard a prawn trawler in the Malindi-Ungwana Bay fishing ground.

This capacity building will not only improve on compliance and data collection but is also meant to improve on the quality trawl fishery observer data to support stock assessment for the prawn fishery.

The facilitators are scientists, from Kenya Marine Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) and Fisheries Officers, from the Kenya Fisheries Service (KeFS).
