KEMFSED National Project Coordinator Patrick Kiara joined Kilifi County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of fisheries, Dr. C, local leaders and the community in a mangrove tree-planting event at Sita Landing Site in the county.

The event was organized by the county jointly with Sita Umoja Creek Self-Help Group, which received a KEMFSED grant for a mangrove restoration initiative. The group has established a nursery containing 78,000 seedlings to be replanted to restore degraded areas of a mangrove forest, an important fish breeding area.
The group has also opened a restaurant within the mangrove area and is managing a snake park as part of its ecotourism ventures to improve the livelihoods of the local community.
Others who took part in the tree planning include Collins Ndoro, the KEMFSED Component 2 Lead, Dabaso Ward Member of County Assembly Dickson Changawa, Arabuko Forest Warden Salim Mwakomba and Lucy Kapombe, the KEMFSED County Project Coordinator
